30th October 1485. Reign 22nd August 1485 – 21st April 1509.
Claim to the Throne
Head of the House of Lancaster, defeated King Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field; his claim was through his mother – Lady Margaret Beaufort who was great-granddaughter of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster (son of King Edward III). His claim to the throne was weak, it was only for defeating King Richard III that he became King.
Died
21st April 1509, Richmond Palace, Surrey, England. Cause of death – tuberculosis.
Buried – Westminster Abbey.
